Wind-Borne Debris: Impact Resistance of Residential Glazing
This technical report studies the impact resistance of single-layer annealed
glass, typically used in residential windows and doors. Both roof shingle and
2x4 missile types are used to develop "fragility curves" for the purpose of
risk modeling and to better understand the impact resistance provided by
standard glass. Energy and momentum methods are compared and momentum is found
to better index glass performance across various missile types with differing
degrees of elasticity or plasticity.
