Michael Luzier
President & Chief Executive Officer
Michael Luzier became president of the NAHB Research Center in January 2003,
bringing with him over 20 years of experience in the housing industry. Drawn to
the Research Center’s mission to improve the quality and affordability of homes
by promoting innovation in housing technologies, Luzier saw his move to the
NAHB Research Center as a unique opportunity to help accelerate improvements in
home building products and processes for the benefit of builders,
manufacturers, and consumers.
To advance the NAHB Research Center’s mission, Luzier has initiated a
significant expansion and integration of the company’s capabilities and
services toward the goal of making the company the premier housing technology
research and consulting firm in the world. Because of its unique relationship
with the industry (a wholly-owned, but independent subsidiary of the National
Association of Home Builders), its wide range of research expertise, and its
over 40 year history, Luzier believes the NAHB Research Center is uniquely
postured to help clients overcome the often daunting impediments to moving new
products and technologies into the market.
By integrating the company’s core capabilities – Applied Research, Technology
Transfer, Product Testing and Certification, and Market Research – into
comprehensive product commercialization strategies for clients, Luzier’s vision
is to create a one-of-a-kind consulting firm. The market's reaction has been
positive as the NAHB Research Center has grown its revenues over 20 percent in
the last three years. This success has supported a $10 million expansion of the
Research Center’s laboratory and market research facility, which opened in June
2007. The new building will unite the engineering and market research
capabilities by providing the only known site where a state-of-the-art market
research facility overlooks a fully functional product testing lab.
Prior to joining the NAHB Research Center, Luzier developed and led the NAHB
Regulatory Affairs Program as a senior vice president. He earned his masters
degree in Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania, and his B.A. in
Political Science at Virginia Tech. He lives in Severna Park, Md. with his wife
Anne and their four children.
