NAHB Research Center Receives OSHA Harwood Training Grant
Research Center and NAHB to Build upon Previous Safety Training Offerings
October 6, 2004, Upper Marlboro, Md. - The NAHB Research Center has been
awarded a Susan Harwood Training Grant, which supports the development of
training materials to educate Hispanic and other non-English speaking workers;
employers in small businesses; and workers and employers in high-hazard
industries and industries with high fatality, injury, and illness rates. The
Research Center was one of 69 recipients of this year's grant program, which is
funded by the United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA).
To fulfill the mission of this grant opportunity, the National Association of
Home Builders (NAHB) and the NAHB Research Center will continue their existing
educational partnerhsip to offer home builder safety and health management
training that focuses on how to Develop and Implement a Home Builder Safety and
Health Management Program. Four-hour seminars will be offered to home
builders and trade contractors in 15 new locations across the country between
now and September of 2005. They will focus on the development and effective
implementation of company safety and health programs, emphasize why safety and
health programs are important, and provide attendees the necessary tools to put
the programs into operation successfully.
Each participant will receive a student manual and CD-ROM that includes a how-to
guide that can easily be customized and adapted to meet the safety needs of
individual businesses, along with a training completion card.
