Directory of Accessible Building Products Released at 2006 International Builders' Show

January 11, 2006, Orlando, Fla. - The NAHB Research Center released its sixteenth edition of the Directory of Accessible Building Products (DABP) at this year's International Builders' Show to assist the home building industry in meeting the housing needs of older adults and homeowners with special physical needs. The DABP features descriptions of nearly 200 commercially available products and is designed to be a one-stop resource for addressing accessibility needs in residences.

The Directory of Accessible Building Products provides the building industry with needed product information, for aging in place and universal design needs allowing homebuyers and homeowners to live comfortably, safely, and independently in their own homes for as long as possible, regardless of income or ability level. It contains useful information about building products, with a focus on kitchens and bathrooms, including appliances, fixtures, cabinets, and faucets. It also features information on home automation, climate control products, doors, ramps, stair lifts, and accessible floor plans. The DABP is the premiere industry resource for builders and remodelers searching for products to achieve maximum accessibility value and meet their client's needs.

According to NAHB Research Center president, Michael Luzier, "The Directory of Accessible Building Products is powerful resource that features products and technologies that support aging in place and universal design, allowing residents to live more comfortably, safely, and independently in their homes regardless of age or physical ability. As building professionals strive to meet the growing demand for more functional and livable housing options, a greater understanding of how to meet specialized needs of this evolving market segment will be required. For this reason, the DABP is a must-have reference guide for all builders and remodelers."

To order a copy of the Directory of Accessible Building Products, call the NAHB Research Center at (800) 638-8556, or visit the website at www.nahbrc.org/bookstore.
